At the beginning of October, the Evoke team swapped autumn Brussels for the sunny Spanish island, over which the Vengaboys scored a hit in my year of birth. ”Wow! We're going to Ibiza.” Even before I met all my new colleagues, I packed my bags and got ready for my first workation. Say what?
After leaving student life behind this summer, I took my first steps as a junior PR consultant at Evoke on October 3. While I was fully exploring the office, my colleagues and my new job, the rest of the team also built up tension. That Sunday, we all boarded the plane together.
So my second week of work looked completely different than the first one. After a team breakfast and the daily 9 to 4 under the sun, it was time for a snack and a drink, board games on the terrace or a refreshing splash in the pool. The ideal time to get to know the team extensively as a new colleague. Fortunately, after some (unjustified) stress before leaving, I was able to quickly let the home front know that the atmosphere in Villa Mariposa was absolutely good.
The working week seemed to fly by, but not without results. In fact, the workation was full firsts for me. Writing a blog and subtitling a video for the first time, clients who saw me appear during a video call for the first time, working with different platforms for the first time, and finally, my first team meeting, followed by a first team building.
I'm still not convinced that everyone can just imagine the word catamaran, but I Googled it before leaving just to be on the safe side. Well prepared and loaded with sandwiches, sunscreen, swimwear and, above all, lots of enthusiasm, we jumped on the boat that took us to the most beautiful bays in Ibiza on Friday afternoon.
End on a high, as it should be. We enter the winter with an extra dose of vitamin D, a good atmosphere in the office and a memory for a lifetime. Time to aftermovie to play and thus return for another 5 minutes to the beautiful island in the Mediterranean Sea where I met my colleagues.
Saludos colegiales,
Caitlin
